Definition
An email sent to a prospect with no prior relationship to the sender, written to start a genuine sales conversation rather than announce a product.
Done well, cold email is permission-based and targeted: it goes to a narrow list matching a defined ICP, references something specific about the recipient, and is legally compliant with laws like CAN-SPAM and GDPR. Done poorly, it collapses into the same broad, generic blasting that gives the channel its bad name.
